All pine timber used is kiln dried and screened to remove small fine particles along with dust before it is pelletised.
All of the pine wood fibre is kiln dried to a low moisture content pre-pelletisation which results in a product that has outstanding absorption qualities when used within the stable environment. This provides durability and aids the longevity of the product’s life to keep the bed dry, controlling husbandry hoof challenges that are associated with wet bedding.
Silva Crumb’s major attribute comes from the pine wood used in manufacturing. Its natural antiseptic properties and resin content significantly reduce ammonia odour from building in the bed and reduces airborne taint with long-lasting effect. This characteristic is not found with many brands of pellets on the market.
Silva Crumb is specifically made for equines and not a derivative product of the energy market. Only selected pine timber is used removing the risk of unwanted wood species entering the supply chain. During manufacture extreme heat is produced as pellets are made which has a pasteurising effect leaving a clean, additive free product that is ideal for sensitive horses or those with allergies.
Only specific softwood pine is used to create the the bedding. Once activated it offers a natural soft supportive bed that is dry and comfortable for horses and ponies to lie and rest upon
Once activated the soft crumb bedding offers support. It moulds under the hoof around the frog, giving even hoof support and joint cushioning.
Long-lasting, requiring less fresh new product weekly than other forms of bedding. Quick and easy to remove manure and clumped wet spots saving you time. Smaller manure heaps are an added bonus of Silva Crumb pellets.
All of our wood is sourced from sustainably managed forests and is a natural by-product of the timber industry. The bedding is completely bio-degradable and composts quickly to a usable mulch/fertiliser. The bags are made from LDPE 04 type plastic which is fully recyclable.
Start with a clean empty stable. We recommend between 6 to 7 bags to initially prepare a good sized 12’ x 12’ stable (approximately 3.5m x 3.5m). Fewer bags can be used if the stable also has rubber matting or is smaller.
Lay the bags flat on the stable floor and cut the bags open diagonally corner to corner.
Using clean water to activate the dried pellets, add approximately 5 litres or around 1/4 to 1/3 of a bucket of water, tipping it carefully over the pellets into each open bag.
Leave the wetted bags for around 15 minutes for the moisture to activate with the dried pellets which will then expand into a friable crumb material.
After approximately 15 minutes tip out the bedding crumb onto the stable floor and spread evenly with a shovel or fine tined fork to form a bed area.
If applying on top of rubber matting this can be thinner but we typically recommend a bed depth of around 4” or approximately 10cm to offer comfort and support for your horse.
Daily
Using a fine tined fork, sieve through and remove only manure solids incorporating and mixing any wet patches into the existing dry bedding. After time any particularly wet spots can be removed from the bed with a fine tined fork. Fresh pellets can be added to wet spots using the same activation method, or, if there are any particularly wet spots within the stable, pellets can be added straight from the bag without pre-wetting to increase absorbency.
Weekly
Each week or as necessary add between 1 to 2 bags of activated pellets. If preferred you can add extra without pre-wetting to keep the bed topped as waste is removed.

I have used wood pellet bedding in my yard for several years now, but with the significant hike in prices across all brands over the last year, I have looked at alternative products in my quest to get value for money as well as a product fit for purpose. I came across Silva Crumb whilst researching different pellet products – although the price per pallet was almost exactly the same as the previous pelleted product I was using, I thought I would give this a try as it sounded like a whiter/more absorbent bedding. I was right. The pellets are extremely absorbent, but unlike the other product I was using, they boost and whiten/lighten the beds much more, even those of the wettest and dirtiest horses. The bags are also very good quality, so don’t split easily and don’t have those rather annoying ventilation holes that leak water into the beds when you soak the pellets in the bags. The customer service was also very good, including a follow-up call to check on whether the delivery was timely etc. I’ve only awarded 3* for the price because all pellet products are now twice the price they were 12 months ago. Notwithstanding this, I shall be ordered Silva Crumb again as it’s the best pellet product I’ve tried so far.

Since discovering Silva Crumb pellets, life has become so much easier! My pony is very wet and messy meaning previously, I was going through a lot of bedding and it was taking a lot of time to muck out.
Silva crumb is different it’s so absorbent meaning next to no wasted bedding and it’s so easy to separate poo from the pellets, again, minimising waste!
Used bedding doesn’t smell meaning I can muck out before work without worrying about the smell of horse wee on my clothes and it the muck heap is also more pleasant and smaller.
The price works out to be very cost effective, much cheaper than the shavings I was using previously and it also lasts much longer.
There are 3 quantity options to choose from when placing an order meaning there are pricing options for every budget. The variety of quantities available to buy also gives people the chance to try the product without having to commit to a full pallet which is really useful for pellet newbies like I was at the time!!
Customer service is great, Silva Bed are really easy to get hold of and answered all my questions prior to purchase.
Over all, I can’t fault the quality, effectiveness and cost saving these pellets bring to the table! I will never go back to shavings, Silva Crumb is the way forward for me!

Big title I know ….
Since changing to Silva Bed Crumb it has truly changed everything for the better! I have 4 horses on Silva Bed Crumb 3 have it as a base under shavings and 1 has it as a complete bed! 3 of my horses are very messy but this is working really well for us and I am noticing so many positives since making the change. The main ones are TIME the time it takes for me to muck out has drastically reduced. WASTE is less! I’m taking out less bedding which in turn means I’m throwing less away which in turn means my muck trailer is emptied less which is obviously SAVING me MONEY all round! It’s easy to store and even in our very leaky shed the bags have never let me down, the pellets are always nice and dry inside and finally the SMELL! I have one horse who is disgusting, his stable never smells any more which trust me is simply AMAZING!

I have used wood pelllets for years but the Silva ones have been the best. They stay quite dry and build quite a hard base which helps with the bed not getting too wet. Mostly my wheelbarrow is full of droppings because it’s so easy to separate from the bedding so saving on bedding. If price is competitive I will most certainly keep using Silva. I also recommended it to another livery whose horse is very messy and walks his stable. They are delighted with it and the bed stays in place much better.

I have been on the look out for an affordable and high quality wood pellet to use for my horse who is a chronic box walker. Finally I saw Silva Crumb advertising on Facebook in one of the many horsey groups I am in and I’d had a really bad time mucking out shavings over winter with zero turnout, that I had reach breaking point with shavings, so I took the plunge and ordered a pallet of Silva Crumb wood pellets after speaking to friends on the yard about what would be best for said box walker. I received a lovely phone call from Louise to book in the delivery and from ordering on the Friday, they arrived on the following Wednesday (which I had asked for). I find I am able to muck out so much easier and there is less waste everyday, I’m filling half of my small green wheelbarrow as opposed to all of my big blue wheelbarrow daily. I cannot thank Louise enough for her help when ordering the pallet and I definitely will be reordering and they have a customer for life

I’ve tried most types of bedding and decided to try Silva Crumb as I saw it advertised on a Facebook group.
I have a clean, old horse and a messy young one, who box walks and poos in the same place most days but some days treads it all in.
I like the silva crumb because it holds the wet and goes solid, so it doesn’t mix in with the rest. The pellets are easily dissolved with water and I only have to out in one bag every five days although I am quite stingy with it as it has rubber mats.
The poo sits on the top and doesn’t tend to break up into little bits as with normal wood pellets, and is easily scooped up.
The bed doesn’t smell, I leave the wet in and dig it out every ten days or so. Even when it’s dug out there is minimal odour.
I’m really pleased with it, perhaps the only thing I would say is that the poor man who delivered it had trouble with his fork lift trolley and had a job getting the pallet uphill into the yard, but that was a logistics problem!
I would definitely recommend it!

“We have been using Silvabed crumb this winter and we are so impressed with it! I run a busy livery yard with 15 horses on this bedding, and the overall management is really easy. The bedding is light and fluffy, simple to muck out and keeps a really nice colour. “

Like many horse owners with jobs, homes, dogs, partners etc, time and money are limited. Products are considered and chosen based on minimising the above without compromising efficacy or welfare. I have tried all types of bedding based on the varied needs of my different horses and I have now used pellets as my predominant bedding for years. When they became difficult to source a while back, I happened across Silva Crumb by chance and quickly made an order. Having had varying quality in the past, I was pleasantly surprised to find the Silva Crumb of a consistently high quality, very absorbent and with a lovely smell. The larger 18kg bags are the perfect size, ordering is straightforward and the company exceptionally easy to deal with. I’ve lost track of how many pallets I have had now, but each has been of the same high quality, it’s quick and easy to skip or muck out and dust is minimal. Really pleased I discovered this product, it suits me well in terms of time and money, but more importantly, suits all the varying needs of my horses.

I’ve just had my first delivery of half a pallet of Bedding. Ordering process was great, excellent communication and speedy delivery. The pellets themselves are fantastic. I love the colour, having tried 2 other types of pellets, that leave the bed looking dirty and dusty, these stay lovely and white and clean. Super easy to muck out, with very little waste. I’ve used 4 bags in each stable, as I have mats, and I top up with a bale of big flake shavings, more out of habit and asthetics than anything, but the beds look and smell fresh , inviting and clean. The pellets form a really good fluffy base. I’m really impressed 🤩

I moved to Silva Bed two weeks go and I am absolutely over the moon with the bedding.
I have four large horses, including the world’s messiest gelding who also has equine asthma, and I have tried every bedding on the planet.
Silva crumb has made such a lovely bed which is extremely easy to muck out I have saved about 30 45 minutes a day mucking out time, it is so easy and the trips to the muckheap has less than halved. Once I’ve mucked out, I rake over the bedding to level off the bed. The horses seem to like it too and roll every day when I bring them in!! I’ve also noticed that their legs are much drier and cleaner after being outside. The bedding is definately the most absorbant I’ve ever used.
The customer services is fantastic and such a lovely company to deal with. Following my first order, I received a call to talk about the delivery options (we live down a single track lane). Once delivered, I had a follow up call to ensure everything was ok.
It will be interesting to see how long the pallet lasts me but I’m sure it will be a lot longer than the previous bedding. Thank you Silva Bed.

I own and run a large competition livery yard with horses that have all different needs and wants. I have tried every type of bedding imaginable, shavings, miscanthus, other pellet brands and straw. First of what drew me to trying Silvacrumb is that it’s the only pellet bedding on the market offering bags over 15kg. I spoke Louise and her husband to discuss the product and they could not have been more helpful. From all the questions I had to ask to discussing delivery options (which I also a massive plus, not having to go to the feed shop weekly to load up with bedding). Once I received the pallet of Silvacrumb I was so impressed setting up my first bed, from the ease of slightly soaking the pellets and how much they fluff up, the amazing smell they give off, like freshly washed laundry (which by the way doesn’t disappear after a week of smelly horses on them) and the amazing bed they make with only 6 bags. I genuinely couldn’t recommend this product anymore, I have now moved more of the horses in the yard on to it as they totally love it. More horses laying down and rolling in their lovely huge Silvacrumb beds. 10000% recommend the product and the service from the amazing team at Silvabed😊

Started using Silva for our 3 ponies bedding as found other options dusty and as an asthmatic this wasn’t ideal.
Have been using now for 2 months, and the decrease in the amount of dust is incredible. The bedding is great at controlling odour, reducing the amount of waste and is proving to be an improvement in cost effectiveness, all 3 ponies like it too!
Communication with the company has been great, deliveries no issues too. Thank you.

We swapped to Silva bed earlier in the year, having used both straw then shavings previously. We quickly realised how easily mucking out became, less taken out and it was so quick to remove droppings without taking out the bedding. Unfortunately bad planning meant we ran out of Silva bed and had to revert back to shavings, what a mistake! Mucking out became a chore again, large amounts of shaving were thrown away as they just spread the wet across a large area due to lack of absorbing compared with Silva bed. The smell of urine was bad. Quickly we found a local stockiest of Silva bed and bought a few bags to tie us over until a pallet could be ordered. Silva bed truly is a game changer. Economical and easy to use and far better than anything else we have used.

We started using this bedding last year mainly because was local but I have to say is the best I’ve ever used!
Worked with horses all my life, it is so easy, clean & no smell, truly amazing!

I’ve had quite a few pallet loads of this bedding now and I couldn’t be happier. It’s so light in colour and I love the bigger bags. I’ve got 14 horses on them, some I mix with shavings and it works great both ways.
I won’t ever buy another brand again!!

As a 5 event rider with a busy yard of often up to 20 horses, we require a bedding that is cost effective, time efficient and high quality. We choose Silva Crumb because it keeps our outgoings low and our standards high, with quality you can rely on pallet after pallet.
The pellets are made of kiln dried pine, so look lovely and appealing over the stable door, which is hugely important to me. The high absorbency rate and extraordinary ability to control ammonia means our stables are as clean as they can be. Being low dust also means horses are impacted less in their respiratory function whilst being stabled.
We found other competitors used 15kg bags, compared to Silva Bed who supply 18kg bags. It’s amazing how much difference that 3kg makes to usability! The beds are easy to muck out and take up minimal room on the muck heap, so we don’t have added costs there.
We wouldn’t use anything else for our beds here and have noticed a huge difference in terms of cost and quality since switching to Silva Bed!
